Why should you hire a professional wedding planner

Planning a wedding is a huge amount of work and requires an enormous amount of time as well, specially when your planning it abroad and there are countless decisions to make.

So first off, let me tell you that the vast majority of our clients are super organized, highly motivated professionals who would and could plan their own weddings if they had the time and inclination to travel to and from Portugal 10 times to make sure all the details were locked down to their satisfaction. But because they are busy professionals who don’t have that kind of time, and also the knowledge of how things work in Portugal, they hire Dream Day Wedding Planners to do the planning.

One of our Brides once told us in a very funny way “I don’t want to be a Bridezilla, so I hired you to do it for me.” 🙂

The wedding consultant guides you through the planning process and the wedding day itself, assisting in whatever capacity you need. The planner will also connect you to the appropriate vendors, advise you on proper etiquette, and suggest ways to use your budget wisely. Besides keeping your schedule on track, a planner will also create a wedding-day timeline and make sure that it gets carried out down to the smallest detail.

A good planning is crucial to have a perfect wedding day, but also the Planner has a very important role in orchestrating the wedding day itself. Besides coordinating the vendors, we might do everything from gathering your wedding party for pictures to making sure all the seating cards are in place to calming nerves. We’ll check that the flowers and food are exactly what you ordered and manage the evening from cocktails to cake. With a person to take care of the logistics, you’re free to focus solely on enjoying yourself.

This are just a few reasons that we think you shall hire a wedding planner for your wedding in Portugal!

If you have any questions about getting married in Portugal we’ll be more than happy to help.

Today we share with you a Real Wedding Story, this is about Rui & Fernando, a beautiful and inlove couple that tied the knot in Coimbra, Portugal.

But, let’s take it back a few years. Fernando, who was born in Coimbra, was spending the summer visiting. His academic schedule allowed him long periods of time to visit points far afield. Thanks to the internet and its social media outlets, these two found each other. And, while it might not have been “love at first click,” it wasn’t too far off.

“I quickly fell in love with the fact that he was from where I was born, that he was the father of two gorgeous daughters and knew where he was going,” said Fernando. Rui also represented for Fernando the possibility of a life fully out of the closet. While his friends and siblings knew he was gay, Fernando had not come out to his parents.

Coimbra would be the destination for their wedding last summer. Fernando had spotted an old, palatial building just above Coimbra and set out to make it their venue. “The building was so beautiful. European style, typical blue Portuguese tiles and an amazing view.”

A city official presided over the daytime ceremony, which was followed by an evening meal, toasts and dancing into the night aglow with sparklers. For Fernando, his favorite moment of the wedding was when he said “I do.” “I had been struggling with the language, but when we said those words, it was magic. We teared up knowing that we’d achieved what we knew was meant to be.” Rui will be immigrating to Canada in the next few months.

When asked his advice to future grooms, Fernando quickly answered: “Enjoy every moment of planning the wedding. Especially the conversations between each other and the people around you.” He went on to describe the pride he had at his school when some of the much younger students came to understand and appreciate that it was possible for two men to fall in love and marry.

No matter the distance, the age or the circumstances, when people experience and witness love, few are the challenges that can’t be overcome.

Today, we present you one of the most popular and special Wedding Ceremony Venues is Portugal.

Sra. da Rocha, or in English, Lady of the Rock is a magic location, where the sea and land become one, as you and your partner join their lives.

Located in the municipality of Lagoa, on the coast of the parish of Porches, Senhora da Rocha is a small fishing community, used as a refuge for fishermen’s boats.

The beach is flanked by this stunning cliff, where the Fort and Chapel of Our Lady of the Rock, built in the XVI century stands.

Due to its unparalleled beauty and location, Lady of the Rock is without doubt one of those special places to get married in Portugal, and each year many couples chose this venue to celebrate their union.

The legend tells that the fisherman wife’s used to light candles on the small chapel, preying for their husbands to return safe from the sea, and for sure this a very romantic place.

If you are looking for a special venue for a civil wedding or blessing, this may be the one.

Welcome to your wedding in Portugal!

Famous Weddings

Jacqueline Bouvier marries John F. Kennedy in 1953.

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier and John F. Kennedy were married on the morning of September 12, 1953, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Newport, Rhode Island. The more than eight hundred guests included many notable individuals.
The bride, wore a dress of ivory tissue silk, with a portrait neckline, fitted bodice, and a bouffant skirt embellished with bands of more than fifty yards of flounces. Her rosepoint lace veil, worn first by her grandmother Lee, was draped from a tiara of lace and orange blossoms. Jacqueline wore a choker of pearls and a diamond bracelet that was a gift from the groom. The bride’s bouquet was of pink and white spray orchids and gardenias.

The bride’s attendants, dressed in pink taffeta, included: her sister, Lee; Mrs. Michael T. Canfield as matron of honor; her stepsister Nina G. Auchincloss as maid of honor; and ten bridesmaids.

The ceremony was performed by Archbishop Cushing, a friend of the Kennedy family, and he was assisted by four other priests, including the former president of Notre Dame and the head of the Christopher Society. Before the mass, a special blessing from Pope Pius XII was read.

Tenor soloist Luigi Vena from Boston sang Gounod’s Ave Maria.

The reception was held on the terrace of the 300 acre Auchincloss oceanfront estate, Hammersmith Farm, for more than twelve hundred guests.
The wedding cake, four feet tall, was ordered by Joseph P. Kennedy. Meyer Davis and his orchestra played under a huge canopy.

Wedding Traditions

The Dress:

Tradition says that the Bride shall wear white, but it wasn’t always like that…

On the XIX century, more exactly on 1840, Queen Victory of England get married on a white dress, starting a worldwide tradition that remains until today. Before that any colour was acceptable since the dress cached the attention, the most exuberant was the dress, the more important and powerful the family of the bride would state to be.

There was a time, on Renaissance and Baroque era, Brides dresses were black, which was considered the adequate colour to wear on a Religious ceremony .

The Bouquet:

This tradition comes from ancient Greece, where brides used to take aromatic herbs bouquets, since it was said that these moved away the evil eye.

There is also the theory that the bride wore a bouquet of flowers in the Middle Ages to disguise the stench she had, since at this time bathing was not a usual thing. Normally the bathing time was in May, so it is estimated that this is why it is said that May is the brides month. Can you imagine this?? 🙂

The rings:

In ancient Greece, after marrying, the bride and groom wore a ring on the ring finger of the left hand, for they said that through this finger passes a vein attached to the heart. Also in Egypt, the bride and groom wore rings, as a symbol of perfect bonding, because of their round shape.
